14-year-old arrested for alleged rape

A Hinckley teenager has been arrested on suspicion of raping a girl in Bedworth. Police imposed a cordon in the area on Coalpits Field Road on Sunday morning, March 19, following the incident between 6:45pm and 7:15pm the night before.

The alleged attack allegedly took place in a grassy field off Coalpit Fields Road. The girl had been sitting with a group of people on the grass at the foot of Walter Scott Road, where it meets Coalpit Fields Road, before the alleged attack.

Police have been scouring the area for the past 48 hours as part of their investigation into the incident, as well as increasing patrols in the area, CoventryLive reports. Detectives have now revealed they have arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of rape.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said the suspect is still in custody. The victim is supported by specially trained officers while officers continue their investigation.

Detective Inspector Collette O’Keefe of Warwickshire Police said: “We understand that this incident is likely to cause concern for the local community but we would like to reassure them that a full and thorough investigation has been launched.

“We are conducting extensive investigations and following a number of research lines as part of our ongoing work. Specially trained officers are currently providing support to the victim and we have cordoned off an area at the bottom of Walter Scott Road where it meets the intersection of Coalpit Fields Road as we conduct the initial investigation.

“In the coming days, there will be more police presence in the area as we try to determine exactly what happened.”
