2 Oakland Teens Arrested in San Francisco Armed Carjackings Targeting Asian Men – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Two boys, ages 16 and 14, have been arrested after a police chase that followed an armed carjacking and attempted carjacking of two Asian men in San Francisco, police said Wednesday.

The attacks took place on Monday afternoon, with the first incident reported at approximately 3:10 p.m. on the 100 block of Mississippi St. in the city’s Potrero Hill neighborhood. A 37-year-old Asian man told officers that four black men approached him while he was in his vehicle and ordered him to get out of the vehicle.

The victim refused and one of the suspects then pointed a gun at the victim and ordered him to get out of his vehicle again. The victim got out of the vehicle with his car keys and ran away from the suspects, who were unable to take the vehicle, police said.

About an hour later, officers responded to a report of a carjacking at 100 block of Galewood Circle in the Forest Knolls neighborhood, just west of Twin Peaks. A 76-year-old Asian told officers he was cleaning his vehicle in his open garage when four black men came in and demanded his car keys. An attacker dragged the victim from the garage, pushed him to the ground and attacked him, police said.

On the ground, the suspects searched the victim’s pockets, took his car keys, got into the victim’s BMW and drove off. The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene.

About 15 minutes later, as police continued the Galewood Circle investigation, officers were alerted to a BMW driving recklessly on Interstate Highway 80 toward the Bay Bridge. Responding officers saw a BMW matching the victim’s vehicle description and attempted to stop traffic; however, the vehicle immediately fled at high speed, police said.

Officers chased the BMW eastwards up the Bay Bridge, the vehicle taking the exit of Treasure Island and crashing. After a short foot chase, police arrested a 14-year-old man and a 16-year-old man, both Oakland residents. The officers also found a semi-automatic pistol that was determined to have been thrown away by the 14-year-old during the chase.

Both suspects face a range of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy. The 14-year-old is also charged with carrying a firearm in a public place while masked and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a crime.
