2nd COVID-19 Booster Now Available to Eligible Islanders

Bestinau got that-

Some islanders may now receive their second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to a county press release.

Islanders are eligible for their second booster dose four to six months after receiving their first booster dose.

This follows a national recommendation earlier this week from Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), which strongly recommends the “rapid deployment” of second COVID-19 booster injections for seniors 80 and older in the community and those who long-term life care and other institutions.

On PEI, those who are now eligible for that second booster shot are:

  • Individuals living in communal residential settings, including long-term care and community care facilities.
  • People aged 70 and older living in the municipality.
  • Indigenous adults aged 18 and over.

Nearly 9,600 are eligible for second booster

According to the province, nearly 44,500 islanders ages 12 and older are eligible for their first booster dose and 9,600 are now eligible for a second booster dose.

Eligible islanders previously infected with COVID-19 must wait three months before receiving their first or next dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Island residents can make an appointment online at an upcoming vaccination clinic or by calling the COVID-19 booking line at 1-844-975-3303. Islanders can also call the booking line with questions or comments. Appointments can also be booked for Islanders aged 12 and over at any partner pharmacy.

Islanders who need to cancel or reschedule their appointment at the vaccination clinic can do so via the online booking tool or by calling the booking line, or by contacting the pharmacy where they booked their appointment.
