TAMARAC, Fla. – Multiple agencies were at the scene of a serious car accident in Broward County.

Witnesses told Local 10 News that a car chased by police on Commercial Boulevard at the entrance to the Florida Turnpike hit several vehicles before flipping over on Saturday afternoon.

An FBI official told Local 10 that when the car finally came to a stop, money flew from the windows.

That’s because officials said the suspect in the vehicle, 46-year-old Robert Willis, had just robbed a TD Bank at 1371 West Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton.

“It was a high speed chase, it was basically a hit and run, they just kept hitting a lot of cars,” said Daneajah Dozier, a witness.

The robbery took place at approximately 12:45 p.m

The FBI, Broward Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol were all on the scene.

After the robbery, Willis drove south on I-95 in an attempt to escape the officers.

He then barricaded himself in the vehicle for some time, authorities said.

Once in custody, Willis was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“We’re pulling and they’ve got guns there and stuff,” said Chanel Rockefeller, a witness. “It looked like they were checking cars and they told us to turn around and we got a hotel here. It’s like, ‘where do we go?’

An FBI official told Local 10 News that they are investigating the possibility of Willis being linked to other robberies in the area.
