Bridgerton actress Polly Walker said in a recently published interview with Vulture’s Devon Ivie that her character’s brightly colored dresses are “somewhat torturous”.

Walker, who plays Lady Portia Featherington on the hit Netflix show, said it’s “so strange” to be worn in brightly colored dresses. Lady Featherington and her daughters Philipa, Prudence and Penelope are known on the show for wearing ornate dresses in bright, citrus colors like yellow and orange. In contrast, the rest of the characters are usually rendered in soft or subdued colors.

“I’d like to dress a bit more like Lady Bridgerton or Lady Danbury instead of these fluorescent colors,” she said, referring to the other matriarchs on the show. “But those are the Featheringtons for you. If I can do it, anyone can.’

The actress said she usually wears all-black jeans when she’s not in character, but wearing the colors helped her get into character. The second season of Lady Featherington revolves around her struggle to make ends meet for her family when a new head of household is introduced. Walker said the “Bridgerton” writers put her character not only in colorful dresses, but also in awkward situations.

“She’s so smart. The writers seem to enjoy putting Portia in these difficult scenarios, and I hope they keep doing that and there’s never a fix for her,” she said.

Walker’s representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Walker isn’t the only ‘Bridgerton’ star to have a style different from their own. Season two stars such as Simone Ashley and Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, have shown that they don’t dress like the characters they portray.
