Calgary homicide investigation after body found in truck along 16 Ave NW – Calgary

The Calgary Police Department is investigating a suspicious death in the Northwest Monday morning.

The Homicide Division was taken to the 16 Avenue NW area between 3rd and 4th Streets after a body was discovered in a pickup truck.

Police told Global News that multiple shots were reported in the area as of about 12:30 p.m.

EMS confirmed with Global News that paramedics were called to the scene around 12:45 PM

Residents in the area told Global News they were surprised that something like this could happen in their neighborhood.

Deifante Walters said the incident happened just outside his bedroom.

“If it was Saturday, I’d be hanging out in my backyard at the same time. It’s disturbing that people bring automatic weapons and use them outside in my backyard,” he said.

Kailey Lewis said she heard some commotion outside her window, which faces 16 Avenue. She didn’t know what was happening until she spoke to the officers at the scene.

“It’s very uncomfortable… You don’t expect things like that in suburban Calgary,” she said.

The truck has since been removed and there are few officers around.

Traffic was closed for the first part of the morning, although the lane was reopened after 6am

No details have been released on the sex or age of the victim; However, CPS said a press release is expected to be sent.
