“AJ Crimson was a makeup industry leader who set a standard for beauty that was lofty, beautiful and accessible to people of all colors,” Crimson’s family said in a statement.
“We as a family are heartbroken and devastated by his passing, but grateful for the lessons he taught us all with his truth, directness and leadership.”
The statement continued: “Thank you all for your kind words, tweets and messages, as AJ was as much an inspiration to us as it was a bright light to the rest of the world. There are no words that can sum it all up. Until we meet again!”

The self-taught talent — who also spelled out Missy Elliott, Brandy, Christina Milian, and more — launched his AJ Crimson Beauty brand in 2012 with lipsticks and glosses.
He then expanded his business to include foundations, primers, powders, and more. Crimson’s products have been used on the sets of hit shows such as ‘Scandal’ and ‘American Horror Story’, as well as in films such as ‘The Hunger Games’.
Actress Bresha Webb was one of the stars who paid tribute to the artist on social media after his death.
“I have no words. I won’t do it for a while. I will love you forever AJ. You had so many plans and were one of the most inspiring, sweet, generous, multi-talented, multi-hyphenated people I know,” the ‘Run the World’ star wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
“I’m blessed that I broke up [sic] of your journey and I will keep your legacy alive. And wow, you left a legacy. Pray for your spirit to be lifted to heaven and for the angels to usher in all the harmony and sweetness you have shared on this earth. Praying for his family and everyone who loved him.”
