In a competitive situation, Apple Original Films has launched “Project Artemis”, a new film from Apple Studios starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson and directed by Jason Bateman.
The original feature was written by Rose Gilroy and will be produced for Apple by Apple Studios. In addition to starring, Johansson will produce under her These Pictures banner, and Bateman will direct and produce through Aggregate Films. Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn will co-produce with Johansson for These Pictures.
Plot details for “Project Artemis” are kept secret, but it marks an exciting combination of stars and filmmaker. Evans and Johansson worked together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years and originally planned to team up again for Apple’s romantic comedy actor “Ghosted” before Johansson had to quit due to scheduling issues. Ana de Armas replaced Johansson in that feature film, which is being directed by Dexter Fletcher and currently in production.
Evans is the next star in the Russo Brothers-directed spy thriller “The Gray Man” for Netflix opposite Ryan Gosling.
Bateman made his directorial debut with the 2013 feature film ‘Bad Words’ and then made the 2015 film ‘The Family Fang’. He recently directed a slew of episodes of his Netflix series ‘Ozark’, for which he won an Emmy in 2019. won for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. He also directed and starred in the opening episodes of the HBO miniseries “The Outsider,” more than proving himself to be an exciting and adept filmmaker in his own right.
Apple records its historic Best Picture win for “CODA,” which it acquired from the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
