Clashes in JNU between ABVP, students left on Ram Navami

Bestinau got that-

Clashes were reported between two groups of students on the occasion of Ram Navami at the Kaveri Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi on Sunday.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) alleged that members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) prevented students from eating non-vegetarian food at the hostel. The ABVP students have also been accused of assaulting the mess secretary of Kaveri hostel.

Meanwhile, the ABVP denied the charges, claiming that “leftists” were obstructing a puja program hosted at the hostel on Ram Navami.

Both sides accused each other of pelting stones and injuring their members.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Southwest) Manoj C told PTI news agency that some students suffered injuries.

“There is no violence now. There was a protest that has ended. We are all positioned here with our team. We came here at the request of the university. We are trying to keep the peace,” he said.

He said details of the incident will be shared later.
