on Jimmy Kimmel Live!the host said the actor was working on the Country series, and Glover played coy. “Am I? I just tell all my business,” said the actor. “No, yes, I have a lot of things. I like to bloom and then go away. Right now is definitely the beginning of another one of those things. I have a lot of things that I’ve been working on, but I just want it all to come out at the same time, so I feel like that’s important.”
Glover appeared as a young Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Storyand while the film’s box office numbers were the weakest entry in the Star Wars live-action movie franchise, the actor’s take on the character was well received. The playboy con man turned Cloud City admin was first played by Billy Dee Williams in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back as an old friend of Han despite their complicated partnership. The popularity of the character has clearly not diminished.
The Limited Event Series Country was first announced on Disney’s Investor Day in December 2020, but there hasn’t been much news about it since then. Given the problems the ongoing pandemic has created for film productions and Glover’s range of projects that keep him busy, the silence isn’t all that surprising.
Season 3 of Glover’s Surreal Comedy/Drama Atlanta premiered on FX on March 24, and he’s still writing the Mr and Mrs Smith series for Amazon Prime Video following the departure of Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Of The Mandalorian and Boba Fett’s book show how successful Star Wars series, it’s unlikely they’ll pass up another potential hit.
Justin Simien, the creator of Netflix’s Dear white people movie and subsequent series, will develop Country, but there aren’t many details regarding the casting and the plot. Emilia Clarke, who played Qi’ra in SoloHan’s partner who became a Crimson Dawn lieutenant said in 2020 that she would like her role in the Country series, but a lot can change in a few years. With her role in the upcoming Disney+ series secret invasioncould she find herself in the Star Wars universe.
The next Star Wars series coming to Disney+ is Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor as the titular character. It takes place afterRevenge of the Sith during the reign of the Galactic Empire, who hunt for surviving Jedi, and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
Country doesn’t have a release date on Disney+ yet.
