Drew Lock: Nothing is promised in Seattle

As of March 21, Drew Lock is the top quarterback on the Seahawks roster.

That doesn’t mean he will be the QB1 when the regular season starts in September.

Lock, who came to Seattle as part of the trade with Russell Wilson, is well aware of this. But at his inaugural press conference on Monday, Lock said he’s looking forward to his new start in the Pacific Northwest.

“I was really excited,” Lock said when he heard about the Seattle trade. “Excited for a fresh start, excited to come in and compete for a runway and do everything I can to show this organization and this league what I’m capable of – which is play really good football

Lock said he thinks the Seahawks can build an attack that maximizes his skills. But he has also not been given any guarantees about his role of team management.

“Nothing is promised — as I would like,” said Lock. “I wish they would come here and tell me that I have to earn it, that I have to come and work, that I have to come and participate. I have to play well. There are many things I have to do to show this organization that I have to be the one taking those pictures. But at the moment nothing is promised. It’s just my job to come in and work extremely hard and compete for that runway. †

Seattle could trade for another quarterback or draft one next month. The Seahawks have the Broncos’ number 9 overall pick and then the number 40 and number 41 overall picks in the second round to potentially target one of the draft’s top passers.
