Falcons look to Marcus Mariota to replace Matt Ryan

The quarterback carousel is spinning this NFL offseason at lightning speed.

After the Falcons trade Matt Ryan to the Colts, they are expected to try and replace him with Marcus Mariota. according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media

Arthur Smith, the head coach of the Falcons, served with Mariota on the offensive staff with the Tennessee Titans, first as a tight ends coach and later as an offensive coordinator.

The Falcons take a dead cap hit of over $40 million on the Matt Ryan trade, according to ESPN’s Field Yateswho says it’s the biggest dead cap hit in NFL history at over $7 million.

Practically what this means is that this will most likely be a major rebuilding season in Atlanta.

Mariota, 28, spent the last two seasons as a backup to Derek Carr with the Raiders. He did not start any matches during that period.
