The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and the Greater London Authority (GLA) have selected the two organizations to develop the houses after submitting a bid through the GLA’s London Development Panel.

The homes will be a combination of one-, two- and three-room apartments and maisonettes, and 60% will be affordable.

The properties will be built on two sites in the former Hendon Metropolitan Police training center and driving school in Colindale.

Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, said the development is in “an area undergoing an exciting period of transformation” and will “promote a strong sense of community with retail facilities, communal areas and a nursery for young families”.

Paul Hackett, chief executive at Optivo, said he was “proud” that 60% of homes would be affordable “to help Londoners get off waiting lists or up the housing ladder”.

Mike Woolliscroft, chief executive of South Division Partnerships at Countryside Partnerships, said each location has been “carefully considered to maximize cohesion and connectivity”.

“This includes integrating community-led use with additional social impact funding to build the capacity of key local organizations,” he said.

Community amenities at the new development include ‘bikeworks’, a walk-in area providing access to bicycles, as well as a new nursery.

Optivo and Countryside are collaborating with groups such as Black Professionals in Construction and Women into Construction throughout the project.

Work on the homes will start in the summer of 2023 and will be completed in 2029.
