Elon Musk considers turning one of Twitter’s offices into a center for humanitarianism — and Jeff Bezosof all people, has a suggestion… get on my level, because i’ve already done it.
The Tesla chief — and now the Twitter board member — came up with a slightly wacky idea this weekend about what to do with the social media company’s headquarters in San Francisco … namely, whether he should help make it a place where the needy can come and crash.
He asked it as a question in a poll, writing…“Convert Twitter SF HQ to homeless shelter since nobody shows up anyway”, with a simple “Y” or “N” answer. At the time of writing, over 1.7 million have responded, and they usually say… do it, dude.
Welp, it sounds like the former Amazon honcho — and currently the second-richest man in the world, behind Elon — heard about his tech bro’s dilemma… and offered some advice.
Jeff replied, “Or do a portion. Worked great and makes it easy for employees to volunteer.” He confirmed a link to an article that’s exactly what he’s referring to… apparently Amazon’s Seattle headquarters did exactly what Elon suggested a few years ago.
The Amazon shelter — which is actually on the Seattle campus and connected to one of their large offices there — is called Mary’s Place Family Center in The Regrade… and it’s a whopping 8 floors, spread over 63,000 square feet. and with the capacity to accommodate approximately 200 people per night.
Amazon worked with MP to get this place going in the early days of the pandemic, and in every way it was a godsend to the community. The digs aren’t bad either.
Sooo, if Elon is serious… he can follow in Jeff’s footsteps to help his fellow man. EM may have had him knock on the bank account lately, but JB is one step ahead in this department.
