Live updates as Preston’s old Odeon on fire with road closures in place

Bestinau got that-

Fire fighters have descended on Preston to tackle what is understood to be a significant fire in the city’s former Odeon cinema.

At least four fire crews have arrived on the scene off Church Street this afternoon (May 14) after a member of the public called in the blaze.

Syke Street has been closed to the rear of the former cinema, with fire engines seen on the road as well as up Main Sprit Weind and on Church Street.

Images form the scene show a large scale operation is under way to examine the former picture house.

One eye-witness told LancsLive: “I called fire service. They just told me there is smoke coming from several areas of the building and it looks like a big job.”

It is the second major fire in Preston city centre in 24 hours, with the derelict St Joseph’s Orphanage ablaze on Friday night.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
