As Twitter’s newest board member and largest shareholder, Elon Musk is already making suggestions for changes he’d like to see on the social media platform.

In a series of tweets late Saturday, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX said the company should add an “authentication checkmark” to its premium subscription service Twitter Blue, which costs $3 a month.

Twitter will add a checkmark next to a username when the account is verified as “authentic, noteworthy and active”.

Musk also suggested that Twitter would make the authentication check marks of premium subscriber accounts different from those of official accounts of, say, public figures.

Such a move, Musk said, would “vastly expand” the pool of verified user accounts and discourage the spread of spam “bot” accounts, making them too expensive to maintain.

Musk also shared ideas on how Twitter should charge his subscription membership, saying the fee should be “proportionate to affordability and in local currency”, adding: “Maybe even an option to add in Doge to pay?” referring to the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.

“And no ads,” Musk tweeted. “Corporate power to dictate policy is greatly magnified when Twitter relies on advertising money to survive.”

Musk’s latest tweets on Twitter, including posting polls asking his 81 million followers if Twitter is “on the brink of death” and whether the company’s San Francisco headquarters should be turned into a homeless shelter “because no one shows up anyway.” ,” followed a tweet earlier in the week asking if he should add an edit button on the platform.

Last week, Twitter announced in a regulatory filing that it had entered into an agreement with Musk to give the billionaire a seat on the company’s board, with the term expiring at the 2024 annual shareholders’ meeting. The move came a day after It was announced that Musk was taking a 9% stake in the company.
