The first mention is made of a man who was murdered at an address in Essex. Lee Murrell, 29, was found dead earlier this week at a Brentwood address.

Police were alerted shortly after 1.10pm on Tuesday 5 April over concerns for the welfare of a man in Warley Hill, Brentwood. Officers arrived and found that a man in his twenties had died.

His death was initially treated as inexplicable. An investigation into how he died was subsequently launched by Essex Police.

A 36-year-old man was subsequently arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder. Jevegenijs Lapkovskis, 36, of Warley Hill in Brentwood, has been charged with murder and will appear in Chelmsford court this morning (Saturday 9 April).

In a moving statement, Lee Murrell’s family said: “Our hearts are broken. Lee is and will always be a beloved son and brother. He was taken from his family and friends far too soon. As we try to overcome our sudden and devastating loss process, the family is asking for privacy at this extremely difficult time.”
