Man killed in Richmond car pick-up

RICHMOND, Va. — A man was shot and killed while picking up a vehicle at a tow company/car dealership on Richmond Highway, near Cofer Road, in South Richmond on Monday.

Police were called to the scene around 11:54 AM

That’s where they found the gunshot victim.

Richmond Police said he died at the scene.

According to the police, he was a visitor to the company.

Witnesses said he was there to pick up his towed car.

The victim’s family and a company employee gave conflicting statements about what led to the shooting, but both said the gunman was on the roof of the building.

Police declined to comment on the various accounts and said they were still investigating the shooting.

“Detectives are going through the information they’ve been given. So they’ve got information from witnesses, they’ve got information from company employees, from people who are in and around the area,” said Richmond Police Department spokesman James Mercante. “And now, of course, they’re watching video from the company. And with that, they can get a little more detail and clarity about the circumstances or motive that occurred.”

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
