It happened just after midnight during a crowd-pulled street car event near Vandam Street and Greenwich Street in SoHo, when 23-year-old victim Christopher Brito was hit in the roadway.
Police said at least 1,000 people attended the illegal event, and calls poured into 911.

The video shows the car making donuts and several people walking down the street to record video. A man is nearly hit, but manages to jump out of the way, and Brito is seen walking outside with his phone.
He falls in front of the car and is run over as shocked onlookers look on.
Unedited video released by police:
Brito suffered a skull fracture, brain injury and serious physical injuries.
EMS transported him to NYC Health and Hospital/Bellevue, where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect vehicle fled in an easterly direction on Vandamstraat.
The driver of the vehicle is described as a dark-skinned man driving a red two-door Infiniti sedan with a yellow decal on the driver’s side that reads ‘Tyler Spec’.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help cover Brito’s medical expenses and had raised more than $13,000 by Monday morning.
A friend tells Eyewitness News that Brito was there to capture the so-called “car culture” that police say endangers drivers and spectators.
