Morrissey Responds To Will Smith Oscar Slap With Smith’s Meme

Morrissey has responded to Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars by sharing a meme referencing a song by The Smiths.

At Sunday’s (March 27) ceremony, Smith took the stage and punched Rock after a joke the comedian made about the shaved head of Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. In 2018, Pinkett Smith revealed that she has alopecia.

Numerous celebrities have since taken to social media to share their thoughts on the incident, including the likes of Zoë Kravitz, Amy Schumer, Jim Carrey and many more.

Now, former Smiths frontman Morrissey has responded to the incident with a meme titled to the band’s 1985 single “That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore.”

Seemingly mocking the fact that both Will and Jada’s last name make them “The Smiths,” Morrissey’s meme features a black-and-white depiction of Will, showing his now infamous facial expression after yelling at Rock, “Keep the name of my woman outside your damn mouth!”

The LAPD confirmed after the ceremony that Chris Rock does not intend to press charges against Will Smith over the incident.

“LAPD investigative agencies are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program,” the LAPD said in a statement.

“In the incident, one person hit another. The person concerned has refused to file a report with the police. If the person concerned still wants a police report at a later date, the LAPD is available to prepare an investigation report.”

Will Smith has since officially apologized to Rock via his Instagram page.

Meanwhile, Morrissey has announced Viva Moz Vegas, a five-day residency taking place in the Las Vegas Coliseum at Caesars Palace. Buy tickets here.

According to a press release, Viva Moz Vegas will “serve as an intimate, invigorating dive into Morrissey’s expansive career from his early days right through to the new album.”
