Nathan MacKinnon skates — and shoots pucks with “full power” — in Denver today

Nathan MacKinnon was out skating and shooting pucks at the Avalanche practice facility this morning. I didn’t witness it myself, but a few eyewitnesses told me that it didn’t bother him too much. An eyewitness even tells me that No. 29 was firing pucks “at full power.”

Sooo…..maybe this wasn’t as bad as first feared. Again, who knows? An update is not expected on MacKinnon until tomorrow. But this is certainly interesting news, isn’t it?

Again, I heard MacKinnon was shooting pucks and looking like his normal self. He flew back to Denver yesterday morning and the Avs defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 without him. That makes the Avs 20-2-3 in the last 25 games he has missed.

MacKinnon fought Minnesota’s Matt Dumba in Sunday’s game in Minnesota, where it was feared he might have sustained the injury. Jared Bednar said the cause for concern with MacKinnon and possible injury was “high”.

If I hear more later, I’ll let you know. Maybe the Avs dodged a bullet here. We will see.

UPDATING: I’ve actually seen a video since (I’m not going to post it though) and MacKinnon is ripping into it one after the other. Skills coach Shawn Allard gave him pucks for the one-timers. It didn’t seem like a serious hand injury to me.
