New York Rangers take over Justin Braun for draft pick

The Rangers have made another move leading up to the trade deadline, this time with more defensive depth. In a rare move between metro rivals, according to Jeff Marek and Pierre LeBrun, the Blueshirts have traded a 2023 third-round pick for the Philadelphia Flyers for right-handed defenseman Justin Braun.

As a free agent this low season, Braun is purely a rental for New York. The defender doesn’t add attack to the team, but brings a stable defensive play to a squad that often lacks just that. We can most likely anticipate Braun’s insertion into the third pair if the need arises.

Braun is now the third UMASS alumni on the list, as the team added Vatrano late last week. The trade is a cunning move by Drury that may not be done today. With the rumors circulating and just over two hours until the 3pm trading deadline, the General Manager could have a busy day ahead of him.
