Paula Badosa retires after 20 minutes of play against Pegula in Miami

The first quarterfinal of the WTA Miami Open has come to an end as Paula Badosa retired 20 minutes after the game started against Jessica Pegula.

The Spaniard opened the game well by breaking her opponent in the first game and taking a 1-0 lead. She then lost her serve in the next game because she failed to hit her first serve. That gave Pegula plenty of time to set up her baseline game and she did. Pegula then took a 2-1 lead and broke Badosa again for a 3-1 lead. Again Badosa failed to hit a single first serve.

After Pegula won her service game to take a 4-1 lead, Badosa retired from the game. It’s unclear what happened to Badosa, but she didn’t have very good body language in the match. There was a rumor about her injury to her leg against Fruhvirtova.
