View Mortuary & Cemetery in San Bernardino, California on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death. Among the benefactors to a marble mausoleum with the Rhodes name were Randythe sister of Kathy and brother Kelle† Photos from the event can be seen below.

Rhodes and two others were killed on March 19, 1982 when the small plane they were flying struck at Flying Baron Estates in Leesburg, Florida Osbourne‘s tour bus, then crashed into a mansion. Rhodes was 25 years old.

In his “Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne” special, Ozzy said about the first meeting Rhodes after his departure from BLACK SABBATH: “I knew instinctively that he was something extra special. He was like a gift from God – we worked so well together. Randy and I were as a team.

“One thing he gave me was hope, he gave me a reason to keep going,” Ozzy added. “He was patient with me, which was great. He was great to work with. He got the best out of me. We had a lot of fun.”

Rhodesdeath has had a huge impact on Osbourne‘s life. “I have lost a dear friend in my life – I miss him terribly,” Ozzy said. “I just washed my wounds with alcohol and drugs.”

“The Day That” Randy Rhodes died was the day a part of me died,” he added.

last October, Randy was posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at the 2021 ceremony. Rhodes received the Musical Excellence Award at last year’s event, which was held October 30 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Musical Excellence Award is presented to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence in creating music has had a dramatic impact on music.

Rhodes was initiated into the Rock Hall by means of morello who stated in a video message. †Randy Rhodes is an unparalleled talent. he revived Ozzy Osbourne‘s career as his marksman sideman. and it was Randy Rhodes‘s poster I had on my wall… You could study Randy‘s songs in a college-level musicology class and bang your head at them in a 7-11 parking lot.

Also offering a video tribute was METALLIC‘s Kirk Hammettwho said about Randy‘s death: “Suddenly the curtain fell and the show was over before it really, really got going.” Wylde spoke highly of his predecessor, saying:Randywithout a doubt, sits at “the round table of greatness in the” Hall of Fame next Jimi HendrixJimmy pageJeff BeckEric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen

Rhodes played on Osbourne‘s groundbreaking records “Blizzard of Ozz” (1980) and “Diary of a Madman”, influenced many musicians and is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His death was a huge shock to the world and Ozzy wrote in his autobiography “I’m Ozzy” that he almost stopped playing music after Randypasses.

Shortly after Rhodes‘s induction in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame was announced, Ozzy told Rolling Stone: “I knew him very briefly. But what he gave me in that short time was immeasurably great. Randy Rhodes to play on two albums, and for those two albums to sound as good as the day they were recorded is another thing. And for that I am eternally grateful. Only God knows where that man would be today. The fact that he’s not here to breathe the air is just a fucking crime.

“Thank God he is recognized by the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame† He finally got there. I’m sad his mom wasn’t alive to see it because he was very close to his mom. It shows that he has not been forgotten. He was a dedicated, real musician, and he was a nice guy. I still think about him all the time.”
