PSV appoint Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy as new manager

The Old Trafford legend retired from play in 2012 and has since been gaining experience off the pitch, initially as a striker coach within the PSV Academy.

Ruud has also worked with their Under-19s, Under-21s and first team (as an assistant), while also helping within the Dutch squad. Now the time has come for him to take on the big job in Eindhoven.

“It has always been my dream to become a head coach at PSV,” says the former striker, who scored 62 goals in 67 games for PSV between 1998 and 2001 before his move to United.

β€œOver the past few seasons I have worked closely with Toon Gerbrands, the current general manager of PSV. I was convinced that I could pursue a professional coaching career and initially thought I needed another year to gain experience. But sometimes things go the way they go and you find out that life isn’t quite manageable. Now is the right time to take the next step.”
