Ralf Rangnick agrees with Jurgen Klopp about Erik ten Hag amid Manchester United left

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has emerged as the favorite to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager.

As revealed by the Manchester Evening News , the Dutchman is United’s favorite candidate to succeed Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season and lead the next chapter in the club’s history. The 52-year-old, like Paris Saint-Germain chief Mauricio Pochettino, has been closely linked to the track for several months and is a popular choice among fans.

Since Ten Hag took the job at Ajax in December 2017, Ten Hag has done a fantastic job at the Johan Cruijff Arena, putting the Dutch giants firmly back on the map. They have won two national league titles and excelled in the Champions League, especially in 2018/19 when they reached the semi-finals.

While managing a club the size of United would be a step up for the Dutchman, he has earned the chance to prove himself at the next level. He has achieved what he has achieved at Ajax by playing good football and developing almost every player he has worked with.

That’s why he was showered with praise from Rangnick earlier this month. The German was asked to provide an update on United’s search for his successor and, as expected, was asked to comment on links between Ten Hag and Old Trafford.

“To start with, I don’t know him as a person,” Rangnick told Sky Sports. “Of course I’ve seen the development at Ajax since he got there. I know a little bit about his work when he was at Bayern Munich and that he’s one of the top coaches in Europe, that’s for sure, but there are a few other top coaches. As I said, we haven’t talked about a new manager until now, that’s why we haven’t talked about him.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp previously described Ten Hag as one of the ‘most exciting’ coaches in the world, making it clear that well-known names in football management are great admirers of the Dutchman. Klopp also explained how Ten Hag is an important part of the uniformed strategy that Ajax uses.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has become lyrical about the work of Erik ten Hag.

Klopp said in December 2020: “Erik is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting coaching talents in world football right now because of the work he does at Ajax. Of course it is a wonderful club – one of the great names of European football, but right now it’s clear they have excellent leadership over the organization and Erik is a big part of that.

“They have had to adapt in recent seasons after losing a few players to rival clubs. I remember from my own experience at [Borussia] Dortmund how that feels and what a challenge it is.

“How they handle it is exceptional. The foundations of the team remain solid and they have recruited well.

“They have a clear identity. I love to watch them, I must say.”
