Record number of Covid cases in Scottish hospitals | Scotland

The number of coronavirus cases in Scottish hospitals is at an all-time high, while infections in care homes have peaked this year, the latest figures show.

There are now 2,128 patients in hospital with the disease, surpassing the previous record of 2,053 at the peak of the Delta variant wave on Jan. 22 last year.

Nearly one in three care homes, a total of 325, have reported a confirmed or suspected case of coronavirus, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.

Scientists have emphasized that many hospitalized patients may be being treated for other conditions, with mild or asymptomatic coronavirus infection. However, demands to keep potentially infectious patients away from general wards and infections among clinical staff are putting a strain on the Scottish NHS.
