Shopping trolley caught between carriages causes Metro disruption as trains suspended

Bestinau got that-

Metro services were suspended on Saturday night after a shopping trolley was thrown towards the line and got caught between two carriages and in the overhead wires.

Services were stopped at around 10.30pm between Four Lane Ends and Tynemouth and remained suspended for the rest of the night. Nexus confirmed that the disruption caused by the shopping trolley on the overhead was an act of criminal damage.

A spokesperson for the Tyne and Wear Metro said: “This is the cause of the service suspension between Four Lane Ends and Benton this evening. Trains will remain suspended in this area for the rest of the night.”

They added that the overhead lines needed to be fully inspected before trains could start running again.

The trolley caused significant travel disruption as services were busy due to the Newcastle United match earlier on in the afternoon. Passengers were urged to find alternative transport as the disruption remained overnight.

Engineers were called to remove the trolley and carry out repairs ahead of the start of the Sunday service.
