One thing about Pusha T, when he drops a diss track you just know he’s going there, and things were no different when he teamed up with Arby’s for a diss track focused on McDonald’s† In the track, Pusha comes in for McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish sandwich, comparing it to Arby’s new Spicy Fish Sandwich.
Just a quick backstory on Pusha’s history with McDonald’s. In 2016, legendary executive Steve Stoute revealed that Pusha T and his brother No Malice were also writers behind the classic McDonald’s “I’m Lovin It” jingle along with Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake. While some are eager to refute the claim, Pusha says he was paid a one-time fee, but not received any royalties for his share of the jingle.
He spoke to rolling stone about it, saying, “I’m solely responsible for that company’s “I’m Lovin’ It” swag and jingle. That’s just real. I am the reason. Now I have to crush it.”
Pusha continued, “I did it at a very young age at a very young time in my career where I wasn’t asking for so much money and property. It’s something that has always gripped me later in life, like, ‘Damn, I made here part of it and I should have more commitment.’ It was half a million or a million dollars for me and my brother – but that’s peanuts while it lasts I had to get that energy off me, and this [ad] was the perfect way to get that energy like, ‘You know what? I’m over it.”
McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle became the company’s longest-running jingle.
Pusha shared the commercial/diss track on social media, saying:Just dropped a diss track with @Arbys† Grab some popcorn and a spicy fish sandwich.”
