The War Wagon: John Wayne was ‘furious’ at Kirk Douglas – ‘We never saw eye to eye’ | Movies | entertainment

Bestinau got that-

During the production of The War Wagon, Douglas was late to set, as he was shooting a commercial to support Edmund G Brown, a Democrat, as governor of California.

This infuriated Wayne, a lifelong conservative, who himself was late the next day when he was filming an ad to support Republican candidate, fellow actor and future US President Ronald Reagan.

Although the two Hollywood stars had their political differences, they eventually became friends and had mutual respect for each other.

In a 1971 interview with Dick Cavett, Douglas stopped asking about Duke’s controversial views on the US taking Native American lands.
