Trafford mayor takes on Manchester Marathon relay for charity

Bestinau got that-

THE mayor of Trafford must overcome his ‘dodgy knees’ to take on part of the Manchester Marathon next weekend.

Cllr Laurence Walsh will participate with three others in a relay race to raise money for art charity Gorse Hill Studios and for Trussell Trust.

The Mayor of Trafford’s team includes Mayor Assistant Matthew Madeley, Cllr Walsh’s stepdaughter, Hazel McCormick and Hazel’s partner Mark Rees.

They will run the first three sections of the marathon through Stretford, Sale and Altrincham, before the Mayor takes it to the finish in Old Trafford.

Cllr Walsh said: “I’ve always wanted to do the marathon which is why I started training last year. Unfortunately my dodgy knees prevented me from running more than 12 miles but I managed to put together a team so we can do it as a relay.”

“I’m doing the glory run at the end. My only problem is I want to stand out a little bit so people know it’s the mayor running. I don’t think wearing the mayor necklaces would be appropriate, but maybe I can find some bling to show that the mayor is active.”

The team hopes to complete the marathon in about four hours.
