MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) — With travel numbers rising near pre-pandemic levels, the Transportation Security Administration is issuing tips to ensure checkpoints run smoothly.
TSA officials said on Wednesday that passengers are carrying more prohibited items at checkpoints, mostly lighters.
Lighters resembling pistols were recently seized at Miami International Airport.
The agency also tweeted a reminder for passengers to leave prohibited items at home or pack items that are allowed in checked bags and not in carry-on luggage.
“We guarantee the safety of travelers with robust personnel and new technologies within the checkpoint that improve safety, reduce physical contact and enhance the travel experience,” said TSA spokesman Sari Koshetz. “We ask travelers to be patient during these busy times, but to leave their prohibited items at home.”
According to Koshetz, firearms brought to checkpoints continue to be a problem across the country.
