UK’s homes for Ukraine scheme only approves 2,700 visas | News

Britain has granted less than 10 percent of applications under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, while dozens of Ukrainians have reported homeless after arriving here, it emerged today.

Out of 28,300 applications submitted, only 2,700 visas were granted under the programme.

The Ukraine Family Program – under which refugees are sponsored by close relatives in the UK – has granted 22,800 visas, and another 8,400 are awaiting processing.

A total of 144 Ukrainian households have reported homelessness, 36 of whom have come to the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

The Local Government Association warned that some had entered the UK through Ireland, which offers visa-free travel to Ukrainian refugees.
