Here’s What Happens Next To Anthony Bridgerton And Kate Sharma Bridgerton season 2 in the book. Based on The Viscount Who Loved MeJulia Quinn’s second novel Bridgerton series, the Netflix novel series is all about Anthony and Kate’s budding relationship in season 2. The couple, who initially disliked each other before becoming lovers, had to learn a lot about each other and themselves before getting into a relationship.
In Bridgerton season 2, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) has decided he’s ready to get married, a family duty he’s been avoiding for a while. When he meets Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) while they are riding their horses, they are instantly in love, but their relationship turns a bit controversial shortly after Kate learns that Anthony has a checklist of what a dutiful wife would be. Learning that he doesn’t want to marry for love also means Kate becomes overprotective of her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran), who is looking for a love match and is courted by Anthony because Queen Charlotte makes her the “diamond” of the season. .
While the road to happiness was filled with many roadblocks for the couple, Bridgerton season 2 ended with Anthony and Kate finally admitting that they love each other and get married. Kate remains in England and the couple are genuinely happy, while also maintaining their competitive, jesting dynamics. Bridgerton season 2 may have been a high point for Anthony and Kate, but what happens to them in the book after that? Let’s split things up.
Anthony and Kate get married before he reveals he loves her
Anthony and Kate bicker and banter, flirt and argue often at Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me† It’s similar to how they are in the Netflix series, where their exchanges get more heated. While Anthony and Kate only get married after declaring their love for each other, the book sees the couple get married after finding themselves in a scandalous situation. And although they are happy after marriage, because they are so attracted to each other, Anthony can’t bring himself to admit that he loves Kate because he is afraid that he will die too soon. It’s only when Kate and her sister have a carriage accident that he can finally say the words. So while he entered into a marriage out of obligation, he fell in love with Kate, despite trying to separate those feelings from his commitment.
Anthony Bridgerton lives past the age his father died
In Bridgerton, is a major reason Anthony decides to take love out of the marriage equation, as he doesn’t want to feel the same grief his mother felt when his father Edmund died. He saw a lot of the pain she felt and he never wanted to love someone enough to go through the same. At the same time, he never wanted to hurt anyone else so much. Anthony came very close to that feeling when Kate suffered a head injury after falling from her horse, but he realized he would take the risk if it meant not missing out on being in love and enjoying it.
In The Viscount Who Loved MeAnthony’s primary source of conflict is similar, but he also fears he will die young in the same way his father did at age 38. This idea haunts him and prevents him from opening up and giving his heart to Kate. In the first epilogue of Quinn’s book (there are two!), the author jumps forward in time to Anthony’s 39th birthday. He and Kate are still very much together and Anthony feels relieved at the age of 39. It means he has overcome one of his worst fears and can stay with Kate and his family. Plus, being with Kate eased the troubled emotions he had regarding (what he thought was) his impending death, allowing him to be even more content when he realized he had more time than his father.
Anthony and Kate start their own family
Anthony and Kate are going to start a family of their own. They have four children together – Edmund, who is named after Anthony’s father, Miles, Charlotte and Mary. In the epilogue of The Viscount Who Loved Me, is only named Miles, but Quinn has provided a family tree with the names of each of Bridgerton’s siblings, their husbands and children. Edmund was born in 1815, the year after Anthony and Kate got married. While it’s unclear what month he was born in, it’s possible the couple will be shown awaiting their son’s arrival in Bridgerton season 3. Daphne and Simon’s son, August, was everywhere Bridgerton season 2 and it’s more than likely that season 3 will deal with Kate’s pregnancy or jump ahead after Edmund is born. Either way, the pair are quite happy with their family in the books, with Miles even taking it upon themselves to stop his parents from trying to play some pretty bad instruments.
Anthony and Kate are aging together and are still competitive
Bridgerton Season 2 ends with Anthony and Kate as happy newlyweds and it’s possible fans will continue to see their relationship progress and flourish throughout Season 3 and Season 4. For now, we only have Quinn’s books to go by. In the novel’s second epilogue, 15 years have passed since Kate and Anthony got married and they are still as competitive as ever – especially when it comes to claiming the famous hammer of death ahead of the annual pall-mall game of the Bridgerton family.
Crucially, Anthony and Kate are aging together and after 15 years of marriage, they are still deeply in love, even more than when they were first married. They tease each other and still know how to push each other’s buttons (the annoyance hasn’t stopped), but they are still madly attracted to each other, jesting and flirting. There is a feeling that Bridgerton’s the leading couple have only grown stronger and enjoy being married, which is something fans may see on the show as well.
