Whoopi Goldberg knocks down race focus after Will Smith hit | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The 66-year-old actress and comedian hosts the American show The View, where she pitched her opinion that Will Smith’s blow at the Oscars would make people “think about black people the wrong way.” She stated that Smith does not “represent every black person” while criticizing the point of view after the live TV clash, which viewers are talking about days later.

The chat show started with a discussion about Smith hitting Rock after the latter made comments onstage about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Goldberg’s The View co-star Sunny Hostin explained that she had heard a public debate centered on race.

Goldberg replied, “People keep saying, ‘oh, they’re going to think the wrong way about black people’.

“Well, let me tell you, they should look at us and say, ‘Oh, okay, [Rock] not conceded’.

“There’s nothing wrong with what? [Rock] so there is no reason for anyone to have a problem with black people.

“You have a problem with Will Smith and what he did. He doesn’t represent every black person on the planet.”

Her colleague explained that she had heard people claim that the incident “plays into the story that black people are violent by nature and especially back men dangerous and scary”.

She added: “[People think] and ‘if Will Smith behaves like this, oh my god, there are black people’.

“Jada, I can’t wait for GI Jane Two,” Rock commented before the camera went straight to the Smiths in the audience.

The actress rolled her eyes in response, while Will initially appeared to smile before storming onto the stage.

When he returned to his seat, he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth.”

The unexpected drama has been the subject of much discussion since it happened Monday.
