Will Smith banned from Oscars for 10 years

Bestinau got that-

The Academy has voted to ban Will Smith from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for the next 10 years as a result of his physical altercation with Chris Rock. Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson detailed their decision in a statement shared with POPSUGAR on April 8.

“The 94th Oscars were designed to celebrate the many people in our community who have done an incredible job over the past year,” the statement read. “However, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith display on stage.”

The Academy added: “Today, the Board of Directors held a meeting to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board of Directors has decided, for a For a 10-year period beginning April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith will not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.”

The Academy again acknowledged that they “didn’t handle the situation adequately” on the night of the 2022 Oscars and apologized for not doing so. “During our broadcast, we did not adequately address the situation in the venue. We are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we came shortage – unprepared for the unprecedented,” the statement continued.

The Academy sent a message to Rock thanking him for “keeping his composure under extraordinary circumstances”. They also recognized all of the hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their “balance and grace” during the show.

They concluded their statement by writing, “This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s conduct is a step toward a greater goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests and building trust in the Academy.” We also hope that this can begin a time of healing and recovery for all involved and affected.”

The Academy’s decision comes less than two weeks after Smith and Rock’s incident, and more than a week after the former’s public apology. According to CNN, Smith responded to the Academy’s decision in a statement, saying, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.” Rock has not yet publicly acknowledged Smith’s ban.
