A woman has died and two others have been seriously injured after being hit by a Land Rover while standing on a sidewalk in Wigan.
Police received a report about an accident involving a vehicle and pedestrians on Ormskirk Road in Pemberton around 9:20pm last night.
A silver Land Rover Freelander was driving along the road when it hit three pedestrians standing on the sidewalk of a pub.
The driver did not stop on the spot.
A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital but later died, and two other men suffered serious injuries.
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving – they are still in custody.
PC Oliver Batty, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has been understandably devastated by the circumstances in which their loved one was killed.
“We immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances and the road was closed for some time while we conducted a number of investigations.
“We’d love to hear from anyone who has information or dashcam footage that could help with our investigation and give the woman’s family the answers they deserve.
“In particular, anyone who has seen a silver Land Rover Freelander near Ormskirk Road in the minutes leading up to this incident is urged to contact us.
“Anyone with information is requested to call 0161 856 4741 or report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk.”
